Can dogs contract or transmit leprosy from armadillos? - can dogs contract leprosy
Last night, attacked my dog for three armadillo in Texas. Armadillos can carry leprosy. Look it up if you doubt. My dog may be at risk of contracting the disease? I know that people can contract leprosy from armadillos, but could my dog? Or it could be carrying the disease and thus expose my family in danger?

Nine-banded armadillos, which are 30 to 50 million in the southeastern United States, considered the single most important natural reservoir of leprosy in humans. (Some cases have been found in chimpanzees and mangabey monkeys in Africa.) What is leprosy in armadillos first place is unknown. I do not think a dog can be with leprosy. I know that the incubation time may require three to five years, but the signs and symptoms appear up to 20 years. My colleague, who is a veterinarian who is currently on leave and has not told me. If you have any questions, please contact Ask your veterinarian.
Hope this helps
